“Natural Dyes”
Saturday, January 19 & 26, 2019
Ages 6-11: 12-2pm | Ages 12-16: 2:30-4:30pm

Experiment with natural dyes that have been in use for over 6,000 years! With a little bit of chemistry learn to change colors too! We will explore indigo and onion skins and the colors they produce. We will also learn to create patterns using ancient Japanese methods of shibori, itajime and arashi!
January 19th: Indigo – Tote bag to be supplied. OPTIONAL – bring one personal small item for dyeing in indigo – a well washed tee or pillow case. Items must be small to fit into vat. No towels, blankets…..
January 26th: Onion skins – Scarf to be supplied. OPTIONAL – bring one personal small item for dyeing in indigo – a well washed tee or pillow case. Items must be small to fit into vat. No towels, blankets…..
*Students must commit to all days in order to finish the project.
