SIGNS TO FIGHT THE FLOOD

SIGNS TO FIGHT THE FLOOD

Global warming has accelerated extreme weather events and many communities around the world are dealing with the destruction. And from these events coastal and urban flooding has intensified. The artist Harun Zankel worked with Artworks, The Watershed Institute, The Department of Environmental Protection, and the NJ State Council on the Arts to create a series of hand-lettered, collaged signs in an effort to inform citizens about the dangers of coastal flooding and how to manage the risks.

Each collage of signs represents different actions people can take to get educated and prepare for the events. The majority of the materials for signs are reclaimed from decommissioned street signs and the main messages are all hand-painted.

The signs are installed throughout South Riverwalk Park along the beautiful Delaware River.

Each collage has a specific message that works in the Fight The Flood campaign. See the resources below for each message.
