“Quilting Stories Workshop”
VIRTUAL WORKSHOP, AUGUST 14, 1-3 PM
Join Artworks and the Sutured Resilience artists on Saturday, August 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. for a
virtual community workshop focused on removing the stigma that surrounds our lived experiences at Artworks Trenton. This is a great opportunity to re-connect with the Mercer community and meet the artists responsible for our upcoming exhibit,
Sutured Resilience.
This collaborative workshop, led by artist Chanika Svetvilas and ARTWORKS Education Coordinator, Kenya Bullock, invites those impacted by mental health difference and/or trauma whether personally or by friends and family to create art that explores the lived experience, stigma and methods of support. This raises awareness and is an opportunity to share narratives and resources in a safe space. With permission from the participants, they have the opportunity to share their creation in a collective installation in the Trenton Artworks Community Gallery and website.
Attendees will be able to pick up art kits, Thursday, 08/12/21 from 1-6 pm, before the workshop to follow along at home. If you are interested in submitting your piece to the Trenton Artworks Community Gallery and website, please drop it off within the week.
UPDATE: Due to the rise in COVID 19 cases in the area, we as a collective have decided to go fully virtual with the Quilting Stories workshop. We care for our community in such a way that puts the safety of its members first. While we were excited to connect in-person, it is understood that when the time is right, and our physical health isn’t put in jeopardy, we will be able to revisit in-person workshops soon!
Please share your stories and resilience by following/using the hashtag #SuturedResilience.
