Black History Month Workshops | Silhouette Creations

Inspired by Kara Walker

February 7, 2025 | 6 – 9 pm | $35

An immersive workshop inspired by the groundbreaking artistry of Kara Walker. Known for her bold and narrative-driven creations, Walker’s work challenges us to confront complex themes of history, race, identity, and power.

Participants will delve into the history and significance of silhouette art, gaining insight into Walker’s techniques and the powerful storytelling embedded in her work. Guided by Raven George, you’ll learn how to design and craft your own expressive silhouettes, exploring how this medium can communicate profound emotions and spark meaningful dialogue.

This hands-on session is perfect for artists, storytellers, and anyone interested in using visual art to explore and express challenging ideas. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a beginner, you’ll leave the workshop with a deeper appreciation for silhouette art, your own completed piece, and the tools to continue creating narratives through shadow and light.
