Objectives/What students Will Do Paticipants

In this class, we will explore the idea that there is a hero in all of us. They will choose one or more heroic qualities/actions/powers that they hope to embody more in themselves and others and feel are needed in the world today. They will manifest these ideas visually and symbolically by creating a 3-d figure out of cardboard, sticks, specialty papers, found items, fabric, plaster, acrylic paint, medium and varnish and make heads for the figures with molds and clay. Once completed, the figure can be hung with a built-in loop on a wall or door as an outward symbol of the value they wish to manifest. To culminate the class, time permitting, students will introduce their figure to the class using the “I” perspective in a brief monologue.

What should participants bring?

The courage to create. All the basic supplies will be provided. Participants may want to bring fabric or scraps of personal significance and/or small symbolic items for embellishments.
