DRAMATIC IRONY
noun 1. irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.
All the world’s a stage, and politics has the limelight this year. It feels like watching a surreal stage play being acted out before our eyes. While some are enthralled with the actions on stage, they are missing the person in the rafters, pulling the strings.
In light of recent sociopolitical events that have captivated national and international attention, DRAMATIC IRONY is a visual conversation of these events. From surprising election outcomes and the fallout from that controversial election, nationalist ideology and law, social reform and restitution, to mass demonstrations and protest, there has been a cultural/social/economic shift in what we believe we are seeing and what is really happening.
Artists Tamara Torres and Phil McConnell, through their unique styles and through jointly created works, express their viewpoints with the aim to create the dialog, or keep the conversation going on these issues among people of all walks of life and background.
