JUROR: Mike Quinn – Owner/Sole Proprietor at Culture Magnet, Frenchtown, NJ
Mike Quinn is a screen printer, designer, collage artist and musician in Frenchtown, NJ. Reared on gnarly Philadelphia streets, Mike learned two things early; all life is art, but if you want to make authentic art you gotta share your heart.
At age 17 Mike befriended a local screen printer by the name of J.R. Farrel, who mentored Mike, and has continued to be a mentor throughout his life. While cutting his teeth working in local print shops Mike got obsessed with screen printed art and show posters, and began to see a bigger application for the medium. Touring in punk bands through the 90’s and early 2000’s he made his way and honed his printing craft by designing and printing merchandise for his and others’ bands. In 2004 Mike opened a small restaurant called the Lovin’ Oven in Milford, NJ, successfully applying all the same principles about art to the food service business. In 2017 after leaving the restaurant, he opened his current print shop, Culture Magnet, focusing on screen printing and pushing the edges of whatever envelope he can.
Currently Mike is participating in a group print show at UMass-Amherst, curated by National Monument Press entitled, “Great Hope”, and can be found most days at the Culture Magnet shop/store at 106 Harrison Street in Frenchtown NJ.
