CREATIVE PLACEMAKING THEME RUNS THROUGH ART ALL DAY 2016
Over 85 artists at 23 sites to present a new vision of Trenton to the public on November 12
Creative placemaking in a host of guises will be on display at this year’s Art All Day, Artworks’ fifth annual free open studio and creative space tour, taking place throughout Trenton on Saturday, November 12, from noon to 5 p.m.
Examples include: one of the city’s historic homes housing contemporary artists; a venerable jazz club melded to a shipping container art gallery installation; artist studios cum hip coffee bar cum alternative music space; a Makers Market; nascent arts district planning; Trenton’s Hispanic art center telling local artists’ Historias; a community circus in the historic Roebling Wire Works building (best known as the site of Art All Night); a Chambersburg bar reinvented as an art and music space and free community library; an urban farm and more.
Artworks’ Trenton headquarters will be the epicenter of activity, with open studios, demos and live painting, the Artists of Art All Day group show in its main gallery, food trucks, community partners and more. Visitors will be able to park for free at Artworks, pick up a free map/program and go to 23 sites around the city, meeting over 85 artists and taking in their work. Throughout the afternoon there will be guided walking, bicycle and trolley tours which will start at Artworks and take visitors to the city’s newest murals, artist studios and creative spaces.
“I’m always amazed by the creativity and accomplishment of Trenton’s artist community, but this year I was really wowed by the incredible ways artists, businesses and community groups are reimagining communal spaces in the city,” said Artworks Executive Director Lauren Otis. “The William Trent House, Candlelight Lounge, Trenton Circus Squad, Championship Bar & Grill, Trenton Coffee House & Roaster, Galeria Casa Cultura, you can’t believe what people are doing here in Trenton until you come see for yourself,” Mr. Otis said. “Art All Day provides a perfect opportunity to safely and easily explore this wonderful side of the city,” he said.
Art All Day takes place November 12, rain or shine, 12 noon to 5 p.m. at sites throughout Trenton. Free parking is available at Artworks, which is open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the 12th. Art All Day walking, bicycle and trolley tours all leave from Artworks. Following the open studio tour throughout Trenton, there is a free reception at Artworks from 6 to 8 p.m.
Artworks is Trenton’s visual art center, connecting community, culture and creativity through the arts. Artworks is located in downtown Trenton at 19 Everett Alley, Trenton, NJ 08611.
