Opening reception May 5, 4-7pm.

Gallery Hours- Tues: 11-7, Thurs 2-7, Sat 10-4

Whether it’s called paper, fiber or pulp The Guild of Papermakers strive to share their diversity of artistic expression in paper as an exciting art form as it is informed by the sensibilities of artists migrating to paper from printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and other disciplines.

Not Just Pulp embraces both large and small 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works, including artist books. Some of the pieces incorporate other media such as printmaking and photography, while other work may be purely artist-made paper.

In conjunction with the Guild of Papermakers, Artworks will be offering two workshops:

At the end of the growing season our gardens provide us with a wealth of plant materials which can be processed into papermaking fibers, useful for creating beautiful handmade papers. Using my recent harvests, learn how to prepare iris and day lily leaves, canna stalks and other plant materials to make beautifully textured and colored paper for your art or correspondence. No experience necessary, just a love of the natural world.

Create personal and unique “story vessels” by using hand-cast paper pulp and including your own memorabilia. Bring a clear plastic bowl with high sides to act as a mould. Learn to embed flat inclusions as you form colorful paper vessels, which can commemorate some special occasion or simply be handsome receptacles for your special collections of shells, dried plant materials or other knick-knacks. No experience necessary for this meditative process.

ABOUT THE GUILD OF PAPERMAKERS:

The Guild of Papermakers, established in 1991, is a gathering of artists who work in and with handmade paper, with the common goal of sharing their artistic and technical experience, and increasing public awareness surrounding paper as an art form. The group holds meetings every other month, offers master classes, and holds an annual members’ exhibit.

The Guild consists of approximately 75 members, some living as far away as Washington state and Idaho, but mostly from the tri-state area. In addition to a well established and exhibiting membership, the Guild of Papermakers welcomes newcomers who are just beginning their paper journey.

Guild of Papermaker membership is open to anyone who is interested in exploring the diversity of handmade paper as an art form. More information on the Guild of Papermakers can be found at www.guildofpapermakers.com
