Do you have what it takes to join the Artworks Board?

For 24 years, Artworks, a non-‐profit, 501c3 tax exempt organization, has improved the lives of residents in the greater Trenton region through arts related programming and advocacy. Located adjacent to Mill Hill Park, the unique and inspiring Artworks building is Trenton’s downtown visual art center. Our mission statement reads: Artworks promotes artistic diversity by fostering creativity, learning, and appreciation of the arts. Our classes, exhibitions, and events make art an accessible experience for all.

We’re looking for a few special individuals to join the Artworks Board of Trustees for a three-‐year term starting on July 1, 2012.

If you believe that art is transformational to communities, have a passion for Artworks, for supporting artists and the works they create, or want to bring change to under-served communities through arts and culture, then consider joining the hard-‐working volunteers on our board.

We’ve hired an amazing Executive Director and completely revamped our board structure in the past year to help make our organization even better. Board members have an exciting opportunity to help advance Artworks’ impact on the greater Trenton community in a meaningful way. They meet new people, learn new skills, stretch and grow their leadership, governance and management abilities, become involved in something big, exciting and creative, and significantly give back to the community.

If you would like to join the diverse and dynamic people on the Artworks Board of Trustees and have a few hours a month and some organizational, social, management, financial, legal or non-‐profit skills to bring to the table, let us know! For more information or to send your resume and a cover letter indicating your interest, contact info@artworkstrenton.org

Previous board experience is valuable, but not required. Applications accepted until June 1.

Artworks Trenton presents Not Just Pulp an exhibit of The Guild of Papermakers, May 5 through June 9 at Artworks, Trenton, NJ.

Opening reception May 5, 4-7pm.

Whether it’s called paper, fiber or pulp The Guild of Papermakers strive to share their diversity of artistic expression in paper as an exciting art form as it is informed by the sensibilities of artists migrating to paper from printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and other disciplines.

Not Just Pulp embraces both large and small 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works, including artist books. Some of the pieces incorporate other media such as printmaking and photography, while other work may be purely artist-made paper.

In conjunction with the Guild of Papermakers, Artworks will be offering two workshops:

Paper Making: Nature’s Palette

Instructor: Winnie Radolan

May 12

10am-2pm

$60 +materials fee

At the end of the growing season our gardens provide us with a wealth of plant materials which can be processed into papermaking fibers, useful for creating beautiful handmade papers. Using my recent harvests, learn how to prepare iris and day lily leaves, canna stalks and other plant materials to make beautifully textured and colored paper for your art or correspondence. No experience necessary, just a love of the natural world.

More Information, Materials List and Regisitration: Click Here

Cast Paper Vessels

Instructor: Winnie Radolan

May 19

10am – 2pm

$60 +materials fee

Create personal and unique “story vessels” by using hand-cast paper pulp and including your own memorabilia. Bring a clear plastic bowl with high sides to act as a mould. Learn to embed flat inclusions as you form colorful paper vessels, which can commemorate some special occasion or simply be handsome receptacles for your special collections of shells, dried plant materials or other knick-knacks. No experience necessary for this meditative process.

ABOUT THE GUILD OF PAPERMAKERS:

The Guild of Papermakers, established in 1991, is a gathering of artists who work in and with handmade paper, with the common goal of sharing their artistic and technical experience, and increasing public awareness surrounding paper as an art form. The group holds meetings every other month, offers master classes, and holds an annual members’ exhibit.

The Guild consists of approximately 75 members, some living as far away as Washington state and Idaho, but mostly from the tri-state area. In addition to a well established and exhibiting membership, the Guild of Papermakers welcomes newcomers who are just beginning their paper journey.

Guild of Papermaker membership is open to anyone who is interested in exploring the diversity of handmade paper as an art form. More information on the Guild of Papermakers can be found at www.guildofpapermakers.com
